IS THE RECESSION OVER?

On November 17, 2009, the Calgary Herald states this optimistic headline: “Strong numbers in Calgary boost Oct MLS sales to record highs in Canada”

In the article it reviews how “record” levels of sales have occurred in Vancouver, Victoria and Calgary.  Volume of sales compared to a year ago are up very significantly—up to 170%.  The article went on to state that price for single family homes and condos have increased by 2.9%. In another article, an independent research firm is quoted as saying that the majority of surveyed individuals feel that house prices will go up next  year, compared with very few people citing the same thing only 6 months ago.

Is the recession over?  Are we seeing a market rebound?  If so, it’s time to consider renewing your mortgage, purchasing that new home or moving up.  The winds of change are blowing our way again, and it may be the best opportunity to enter the Western Canadian marketplace that we’ve seen for quite awhile.
